Halkistal

Legend

“Halkistal goes back to when a tribe of Moss'ari lived on Kistal. The very tribe that Insilnuella Eranvurtal helped the Vornir create.”

Description

Halkistal currently consists of a dozen houses, huts, and barns. Many of the buildings in Halkistal have hidden chambers or secret passages. These are either remnants of the Moss’ari civilisation or Deepminded’s own hidden stores and escape routes in case of an attack. Since Deepminded is a powerful mana manipulator, there are subtle magical touches incorporated into the buildings. Self-cleaning rooms, ever-burning fireplaces, and enchanted furniture, like the bar and tables of The Deep Inn.

All are managed by Deepminded, who always has a handful of guests visiting. These guests ain’t the average commoner; no, they’re the greatest heroes, nobility, crafters, etc. And, mind that, not only humans. Despite the fact the fact that guest houses are intended for privacy, Halkistal is a breeding ground for interesting interactions among scholars researching ancient lore, weary adventurers, legendary heroes, daring monster hunters, and more. Sharing meals, ale, and fantastical tales creates a vibrant and dynamic Halkistal.

History

We have no records of when it was created or abandoned, but in 1167 FA Deepminded came and began restoring it.

The Deep Inn, the heart of Halkistal, is a sprawling two-story building unlike any other on the island. Its base is constructed from a unique, pearlescent stone that shimmers with an almost iridescent glow. The building itself is a magnificent example of Fogwald wooden architecture, with soaring timber beams, intricate carvings, and a tiled roof that seems to defy gravity with its sheer size. Here, travellers can share stories, make deals, or simply relax by the crackling fireplace. On full moon nights, the hall is said to be bathed in an ethereal glow, enhancing magical abilities and fostering communication between guests.

But what truly sets the Deep Inn apart is its colour scheme. The Deep Inn is divided into eight distinct sections, each painted in a vibrant and otherworldly hue. These colours are not merely decorative; they represent specific destinations, magical effects, or services offered within the inn.

The Explorer’s Lodge: This sturdy, two-story building is built in a traditional Fogwald style with timber beams and a thatched roof. It caters to adventurers and explorers, offering comfortable rooms, secure storage for gear, and a communal space with maps and local lore.

The Scholar’s Retreat: This elegant, single-story building features large windows and well-lit common areas. It caters to scholars and mages, offering well-stocked libraries, quiet study rooms, and access to rare research materials related to the lake and the Moss’ari tribe.

The Diplomat’s Quarters: This luxurious two-story building is designed for comfort and privacy. It caters to diplomats and nobles, offering spacious rooms with private balconies, lavish furnishings, and dedicated servants to attend to their needs. These rooms might have soundproof walls, one-way mirrors, or even magical wards to ensure privacy.

The Artist’s Haven: This quaint, single-story building features large windows and skylights. It caters to artists, musicians, and bards, offering well-lit studios, a communal performance space, and access to natural materials like paints and clays gathered from the island. These rooms have enchanted instruments, access to rare paints and pigments, and even a performance space where guests can share their talents.

The Stables: This large barn houses Deepminded’s own mounts and any brought by guests. It might also hold exotic creatures native to the lake or Fogwald, used for transportation or research. A hidden compartment within the stables could lead to a secret passage connecting to other parts of the island.

The Granary: This sturdy building stores provisions for Halkistal’s inhabitants and guests. It might hold not just typical grains but also exotic fruits and vegetables grown in Deepminded’s greenhouses using the lake’s magic. A hidden room within the granary could hold forgotten Moss’ari artefacts or remnants of their agricultural practices.

The Armoury: This secure building houses Deepminded’s personal collection of weapons and rmor. It might also hold confiscated weapons from guests or those who have attempted to breach the island’s defenses. A hidden vault within the armoury could hold powerful magical artefacts or ancient weapons left behind by the Moss’ari tribe. Here, one can find maps, supplies for expeditions,

The Alchemist’s Workshop: This single-story building, separate from the main complex, is filled with bubbling cauldrons and strange ingredients. Here, Deepminded concocts potions, brews, and other magical concoctions using rare herbs found on the island and the lake’s magical water. Secret compartments could hold her personal research notes, experimental formulas, or even dangerous, forbidden magic. Here, one can find unique trinkets from Fogwald or even a chance to barter with Deepminded herself for rare ingredients or enchanted items.

In the large rock formation on the side of Halkistal, there are also two entrances into the rocks, deep tunnels, and caves. One leads into The Well of Wisdom library. The other leads down to the crypt with the Well of Divine Tears.
